How Evan's Field Log works

Your Field Agent finds a tree from the book. You share a photo of the find, and Evan writes back in character with a clue or a tree fact. Grown-ups do all the posting and messaging.

  1. Find it

Look for a tree from the book: the whole tree, a cone, a leaf, a needle or a patch of bark all count.

  2. Snap the find, not the finder

Photograph the tree or the clue only. No faces, no kids in the picture, no house numbers.

  3. Share it

Post it with #EvansFieldLog and tag @theconsultingarborist, or send it by direct message. Sign it with the Field Agent name.

  4. Collect the certificate

After three finds, come back here and download the Spotter certificate to print and present.

Field names only

Please don't share a child's real name, age, school or photo with us. We won't ask for them, and we'll never repost a photo that shows a person.

Private is fine

A direct message counts just the same as a public post. Social accounts are for people 13 and over, so share from your own account.

Field Agent safety

  • Explore with a grown-up, and stay away from trees on windy days.
  • Look, don't taste: never eat berries, leaves or mushrooms you find.
  • Collect only fallen cones and leaves, and only where it's allowed.
  • Never climb a tree. Josie is a trained climber with a helmet, harness and ropes.
